Left alone
Punch was born at Ichikawa City Zoo outside Tokyo. His mother didn’t take care of him, so the keepers raised him by hand.
His story
02
An orange friend
The keepers gave him a plush orangutan to hold instead of a mother. He hugged it, slept on it and took it everywhere he went.
03
The world watched
People filmed him being chased, getting pushed away and hiding with his plush. The videos got tens of millions of views and #HangInTherePunch spread around the world.
04
Still trying
He kept going back to the troop, a little at a time. Little by little, he started finding friends. He never stopped trying, and he never let go.
